Problems & Recovery

It will be best for you not to go into this without expecting to have some problems.  The result is unpredictable; at first you will look worse; there can be no guarantee; you may not be pleased; symmetry is impossible; you may be disappointed; there will be problems; some things cannot be fixed. This is true of everything.

We can expect going into this surgery that there will be problems.  Though we do our best to minimize and avoid them, there will be problems. We do not know what the problem(s) will be exactly.  Everyone who has surgery has some problem.  As Norman Vincent Peale has said, "The only people who have no problems are in the cemetery".

Some of the problems that everyone has are swelling, discomfort, discoloration, tenderness, numbness, and distortion, all of which are unequal on the two sides of the face. During the healing phase, whether it lasts weeks or months, all of these factors may cause the person to feel embarrassed and depressed.

Frequently treatment such as injections and touch-up procedures are required.

Usually it takes months or a year or more for all of the swelling to go away and the tissue to return back to normal.
